Look in the mirror. That person you see staring back at you is the one who is responsible for your safety. It starts and ends with you. Far too many of us are getting injured and killed because we do not recognize this fact.
The primary objective of TACTICs is to promote a culture where safety, born out of training and leadership, trumps carelessness every time. Preparing people to respond SAFELY and return SAFELY, will keep all emergency services intact and operating. Moreover, it will save families, departments and communities the burden of dealing with injury or the unimaginable heartbreak of a line of duty death.
The public looks to us for help. As emergency responders, we are hard-wired to providing that help. However, a mental lapse or a careless act can render your initial victim or issue an afterthought and put your fellow responders in harms way on your behalf. We seek to avoid this situation and it is that person you see in the mirror who will determine the outcome.
